Internships

STUDENT INTERNSHIPS **Accepting Applications through August 18th

Gain valuable work experience through interning at The Scrap Exchange! We have three different volunteer internships available for local students. Internship dates: September 2nd – December 1st

Events and Outreach Intern:
Events and outreach interns will assist with event planning, community relationship building, and program development. This position will allow interns to explore what goes in to event planning. From everything from researching events to helping set up events, interns will be involved with the entire process. In addition to event planning, interns will have the opportunity research and implement new methods for building relationships within the triangle.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited the following:

  • Research opportunities for The Scrap Exchange to develop new relationships in and around the Triangle
  • Assist with preparing for on-site and off-site events such as workshops, creative classes, festivals, meetups, gallery openings, and other special events
  • Assist with preparing educational programming materials
  • Assist with planning events such as the Creative Reuse Conference and SmashFest
  • Research new opportunities for grants

*This internship requires that you are able to lift 50 lbs.

Educational Programming Intern:
Educational programming Interns will be focused on analyzing and strengthening the educational programs that are offered through The Scrap Exchange. This includes but is not limited to the Build It! and Professional Development programs. The interns will also assist with researching new ways to encourage reuse in local schools. Interns will have the opportunity to observe and participate in creative programming. They will also be expected to help prepare the materials for educational programming.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited the following:

  • Complete an assessment of the effectiveness of each of our educational programs
  • Propose and implement changes that should be made to strengthen our current programs
  • Assist with preparing educational programming materials
  • Research new ways to encourage reuse in the local school system

*This internship requires that you are able to lift 50 lbs.

Marketing Intern:
The marketing interns will assist with creating design and marketing materials for The Scrap Exchange’s creative programming. The marketing intern will also assist with developing new strategies for strengthening our presence on social media and in the community.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited the following:

  • Create a marketing plan for the Outreach and Education programs such as Craft Night, Creative Classes, and Festival Events
  • Implement new advertising strategies for creative programming
  • Work with Marketing Coordinator and the Design Director to create marketing content such as newsletters, blog posts, etc.
  • Assist with managing Social Media platforms
  • Regularly review The Scrap Exchange’s website and make sure that everything is correct and current
