Cade Carlson is an experimental spray paint and collage artist, focusing in narrative construction by way of dream logic. This collection of 50+ new pieces comprises a visual diary drawing from the preceding two years. The aim of the collection was to provide therapeutic value while remaining visually open ended enough for the viewer to construct their own unique narratives.

“My work before this collection was not consciously concerned with narrative drawn from my life. It wasn’t until I had experienced a series of negative events in quick succession (termination from employment, illness within the family, the emotional fallout from the severance of a romantic relationship) that I decided to objectively draw from my experiences in the form of a visual diary,” states the artist.

Cade Carlson is a local 2D artist that has been active since 2009, utilizing collage and experimental spray paint techniques that he’s honed over time through DIY problem solving and accidental discoveries. He is formally one of the co-founders of the Durty Durham art collective and he resides in Durham, North Carolina with no cats, but plans to eventually change that.

An opening reception will be held on Friday, August 17, 2018, from 6-9:00 pm.  The evening’s festivities include light snacks and drinks, as well as free art-making in the Make and Take room. This event is free and the public is warmly welcomed.

The artist will also be hosting an Artist’s Talk on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 12 P.M.

The show runs from August 17- September 16, 2018.
