During the month of April, The Scrap Exchange will celebrate 23 years as a pioneer in the creative reuse industry with Customer Appreciation Week. The festivities include the community based “Friends and Family” show in the Green Gallery. This exhibit opens on Friday, April 18. A reception is scheduled from 6-9 pm and will feature music by Tiny House and a reading by local poets Hugh Giblin, Martha Dill, Preston Martin and Arnie Johanson.
“Friends and Family” is an annual non-juried exhibit open to the community at large. Artists of all ages, skill levels and styles are invited to submit any work that incorporates strong elements of reuse. The “Friends and Family” exhibit is a true community celebration of the creative spirit that lives in all of us.
Artists are invited to drop off artwork for the exhibit April 14-16 during store hours. Artwork should be appropriate for all ages, have a reuse component and arrive ready to hang. Artwork should also be available for sale, with 60% of the sale price going to the artist, and 40% going to The Scrap Exchange. Artists can find complete instructions and guidelines for submitting art for this exhibit at scrapexchange.org/green-gallery/friends-and-family-2014/.
“Friends and Family” will run through May 10. Green Gallery receptions are free to the public and held in conjunction with Third Friday Durham activities. For more information, call The Scrap Exchange at 919-688-6960.
