Part-Time Outreach Event Staff Position

Job Description: Work independently and with other outreach staff members to lead creative arts and environmental education programs. Facilitate programs (General Events, Workshops, or Parties) onsite at The Scrap Exchange (TSE) or offsite at schools, fairs, festivals, and community organizations throughout the Southeast. This is part-time, seasonal employment, perfect for extra money – you sign up for events when you have time to do them. No weekly commitment or set schedule is necessary.

Pay: $12 – $30/hr. ($10/hr. training rate)

Reports to: Outreach & Education Manager

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with Outreach & Education Manager about availability, event scheduling, and program successes or challenges
  • Arrive on time to pick up company vehicle and drive materials to offsite events, unload, set-up supplies, and manage materials throughout event (after event, load materials back in van, clean up event site, and return vehicle to TSE)
  • For onsite events, arrive at scheduled time to prepare room for event and ensure the space is clean, set-up, and ready to use when participants arrive
  • Encourage participants to engage with the materials provided for their creative reuse program and to share the provided tools (scissors, tape, staplers) with others
  • Provide information to participants and answer questions about the program, The Scrap Exchange, and the reuse materials the organization is diverting from the waste stream
  • Encourage participants to clean up as they go and to return unused materials to their appropriate place so that others can use them later

Job Requirements

  • An interest in reuse and waste reduction & creative arts education and engagement 
  • Ability to provide great customer service in a variety of settings while interacting with diverse populations and age groups
  • Valid NC driver’s license and ability to drive a cargo van & a clean driving record
  • Willingness to experiment with non-traditional materials, create sample projects, and assist participants with building their own unique creations 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight
  • Must be able to multitask and be productive, focused, friendly, and flexible in a sometimes chaotic environment
  • All outreach staff must be able to lift 50 pounds regularly and be comfortable in both indoor and outdoor work environments 
  • Valid identification is required and a background check is part of the new hire process
