Kate Fulbright first found the Scrap Exchange when she moved to Durham in 2014. She spent hours wandering the aisles picking up bits and pieces for art projects. The Scrap Exchange’s mission melds Kate’s interest in art and environmental justice in a unique and dynamic way.

Kate currently works as the affiliate organizer with NC Conservation Network, an environmental policy organization. In her role there, she serves as the liaison between NC Conservation Network and over 70 environmental groups in NC. That work includes building coalitions around environmental issues and helping to increase the capacity of our nonprofit partners.

She moved to the area after a few years of organizing in Charlotte, NC. While in Charlotte, she and her brother made a documentary about communities impacted by fossil fuel extraction in the US, and began to work on coal ash contamination issues in the state. Before moving to the Carolinas, she lived in Bozeman, Montana and studied the history of environmental and climate science.

You can find Kate on the nearby rivers and trails, painting and sculpting, or cooking up a classic southern meal to share with friends.
