This workshop is for all ages!
Join us on a journey through the entire process of turning wool from sheep or scraps into beautiful, functional yarn. In this course, we'll explore the fascinating world of fiber science, from the farm to the spinning wheel, and everything in between.
Introduction to Fiber Science: We'll begin with an overview of fiber science, examining the different types of natural and synthetic fibers and their unique properties.
Learn how wool is sorted, cleaned, and prepared for processing. Raw wool samples will be provided for students to examine under a microscope.
Fiber Processing: Delve into the various methods of processing raw wool, including carding, combing, and blending, to create fibers ready for spinning.
Spinning Techniques: Gain hands-on experience in spinning wool into yarn. Learn about different spinning wheels, spindles and techniques, and practice creating various types of yarn.
Yarn Finishing: Master the art of setting the twist in your freshly spun yarn, skeining, and washing to create yarn that's soft, durable, and ready for crafting.
