Scrap For Educators

Our Programs & Outreach department has been partnering with North Carolina Public Schools for over 30 years. We’re proud to offer engaging and informative programming centered around circular economy practices, reuse art, and sustainability. Please keep the following information in mind as you plan your class’s trip to The Scrap Exchange:

  • We can only host children 4-years-old and up due to liability concerns

  • We can only manage groups of 20 or less

  • We are able to book school groups anytime Tuesday through Friday between 11am and 5pm

Field Trips

$225 per 2 hour session

Field trips allow for students to see the life cycle of a donation at The Scrap Exchange, learn about sustainability practices, then free craft in the Make N’ Take Room.

✔ Includes tour of Reuse Center and processing areas

✔ Inside look at operations at The Scrap Exchange, processing areas, and volunteer center

✔ Ability for participants to be inspired prior to crafting

Lesson Plans

$150 per lesson + materials

Scrap Exchange Creative Reuse Lesson Plans allow educators to teach students on topics including: reuse arts, sustainability, recycling, circular economies and more all from their classrooms. Browse options here.

✔ Supplies & instructions for a reuse craft (for up to 20 participants)

✔ Evergreen - use year over year!

Shopping Trips

$10 per student, 30 minute session

Shopping trips allow for students to explore and shop within our Reuse Arts Store. It’s a perfect fit for budgeting or art curation lesson plans.

✔ Up to 20 students

✔ Ten minutes for students to fill buckets from sales floor

✔ Tour and time crafting in Make N’ Take Room is additional charge

Blue Barrel Rentals

$75 per session

A bite-size, staff-free, cost effective version of our Make N’ Take program! This is a great opportunity to provide a sustainable crafting station at your conference, festival, or event.
