Scrap at the Liberty Arts Iron Pour

Every fall, Liberty Arts artists and volunteers put on their leathers and melt & pour 5,000 lbs of iron at 3,000 degrees right in the middle of Durham Central Park. The event is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and one of the highlights of Durham’s downtown arts experiences.

If you've never seen an Iron Pour, think about a gritty ballet where all the dancers are decked out in helmets and head-to-toe in leathers, dancing around a roaring furnace and pouring red hot molten metal into molds.

Together with the help of DCP, the event offers food & beer trucks, arts and crafts for sale, and music to enjoy. Prior to the pour, Liberty Arts offers scratchblock workshops; we encourage folks from the community to be part of the pour by creating their own piece of art by scratching in a design into 6” square hardened sand, and watching while we pour molten iron into the mold.

The event is free to the public, but donations are always welcome.
