Workshop: Recycling Baby Board Books as Journals

Baby board books are made for babies to handle, with thick cardboard pages and bright colors. Old ones provide a wonderful substrate for painting, collage, stamping, and more. You can create a journal, which can be a wonderful art object to keep or give as a unique gift. No art skills are required, just a love of paper and words and trying out new ideas.

Baby board books will be supplied but students are encouraged to bring ones they may have too. Decorating materials will be provided, but students are encouraged to bring their own personal stash of papers and other scraps they may like to use. Students will learn several simple techniques for preparing pages and creating collages, making pockets and doors, tags and mini-journals and more.

About the Instructor: Jillian Goldberg taught art at all levels for twenty-five years in public schools and private programs.
